Client: In partnership with Careys and Mace Construction
Architect: BDP Architects
Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce has named the Alliance Manchester Business School as the winner of its 2019 Building of the Year Award.
The £85m AMBS, which opened in June, was built around the original steel frame and now provides educational facilities including two lecture theatres, a library, enterprise centres, breakout spaces and cafés.
The project is part of a 10-year £1bn estates renewal programme by the University of Manchester. It was delivered with development and project manager Bruntwood. The architect was BDP for the school while Leach Rhodes Walker provided the designs for the accompanying hotel. Mace was the construction manager.
Bruntwood employed Wright Landscapes to work In partnership with Careys and MACE construction to undertake the soft works at Alliance Manchester Business School.
The package, designed by BDP Architects, consisted of many UK Grown Semi Mature trees and herbaceous planting. Communal seating areas and outdoor casual seating spaces were created with ornamental planting and formal hedging which are heavily populated local workers and students alike.
The remediation strategy ensured minimising the environmental impact of large volumes of import and export of materials, whilst helping to create contoured grassed expanses throughout.
